HEIGHTS IN FIRST SEMI FINAL
SENIORS
The Heights completed their home and away campaign against Greenvale in the Round 18 clash. After the Heights took a 24 point lead into half time, it was Greenvale who hit back in the third quarter to take a 13 point lead at three quarter time. In the final quarter, both teams played the game out with Greenvale finally winning by 11 points. Key players were brought off the ground during the final quarter as a precaution. With the game having no bearing on finals, both teams played the game out. The Heights now go into their first finals campaign since 2007. The Westpac Premier Division First Semi Final against Airport West will be held at Coburg Recreation Reserve on Saturday 31st August. The start time will be around 2:15 pm. The support for the Heights has been fantastic this year and it is expected that the Avondale Heights Football Club supporters will be in full force next Saturday
RESERVES
The Reserve team finished off a very good season. This year, the Reserve team under the coaching of Maurice Iulianella was a real developmental squad with the average age of the team being around 21. Despite losing to Greenvale yesterday, there was real promise for the future with some of this group coming a long way over the duration of the season. With another senior football season under their belt, it is expected that further improvement will occur next year from this young group.
UNDER 18'S
The Under18's team led all day only to lose in the dying minutes to Greenvale. Even though the team was really disappointed in the result, this season has been very successful in many ways. Under the coaching of Vinnie Turcinovich, the Heights have particularly improved in the second half of the season. This can be put down to Vinnie's appointment which provided direction that allowed the players to grow, bringing well deserved results after a limited pre-season from some of the players due too various reasons. With a talented group of under 16's from this season moving up to the U18's for season 2014 together with a solid base of current U18 players continuing next year and a structured pre-season, next year will bring even more improvement.
