The Avondale Heights Football Club, Cricket Club and Sporting Club form part of the team that conducts the TEA GARDENS GIFT. Over the short period of time that this Gift event has been conducted at Canning Reserve, it has quickly gained a reputation as being a very progressive meeting on the VICTORIAN ATHLETICS LEAGUE professional running season. On the same running calendar as Stawell Gift and Keilor Gift, the professional running event will beheld for the third year on Saturday 1st February.
Last year’s Tea Gardens Gift event was a tremendous success and provided a great day of racing. Located at Canning Reserve Avondale Heights, the Gift has become a major event on the local sporting and community calendar. With a carnival type atmosphere including a magnificent setting on the Maribyrnong River, jumping castle for the children, walking tracks along the river and the historic Tea Gardens and upgraded facilities for the athletes, the Tea Gardens Gift has stamped itself as a leading VAL event.
RUNNING TRACK IMPROVEMENTS
Work has been done on the surface including top dressing, fertilizing, general maintenance and other improvements to ensure that the running surface is a real drawcard for this event.
INCREASE IN PRIZE MONEY
Race prize money increased for the 2015 event to $12,000
NEW MAJOR RACE
The Don Furness 70 metre classis is the highest prize money 70 metre sprint race in Australia.
UPGRADED PA SYSTEM
This year’s event will include an improved public audio system by the company that provides PA system for Stawell Gift
