In massive news for the future of the Avondale Height Football Club, Matt Darby has been named captain for season 2021.
Matt’s leadership qualities and ability to impact games stood out in our only trial game in 2020 and for him to commit full time to local footy instead of splitting his time between the Essendon VFL and the EDFL, is super important for our age group.
The Darby family have a strong connection with the club with his father Peter playing for the club in the 1980’s and winning an EDFL Best and Fairest while at the club in 1986.
Matt will have some pretty good backup with Justin Morris and Sean Bolger as vice captains in 2021, which puts the on field leadership ranks with Matt Cravino as playing assistant coach in excellent hands.
Roo who has been one of the club’s main forward targets in the last couple of years will have a change of roll in 2021 with a move into the midfield and half back, where his decision making and strong physical presence will help the group.
Bolge, our newly engaged key forward, will be responsible for leading our forward line and after returning from a serious knee injury, was looking cherry ripe for a big 2020. Along with Danko Bzenic, will cause opposition clubs plenty of headaches in 2021.

Senior Coach
